A Fire Chaplain is a minister that is called to touch lives outside the normal church service. The call is unique in that there tends to be a real burden for EMS/Firefighters and their families. The call also sends out to a mission field of Fire or EMS stations and Emergency response scenes that are very complex in their relationship dynamic due to the culture of the EMS / Fire service.
A Fire Chaplain ministers to Firefighters, EMS responders, and their families during times of great professional stress, Mass casualty, line of duty death, serious injury, or fatalities.
Part of the Fire Chaplains responsibility is to develop a relationship with firefighter / EMS personnel, minister to marriages and families as they adjust to the demands of the profession, fulfill a secular purpose through being listening ear to the chief or rank and file, conduct Critical Incident Stress Management Interventions, and assist in Conflict resolution. A Fire Chaplain also conducts Weddings, Funerals, Memorials and station dedications.
